About Your Instructor

Katy fell in love with clouds while studying abroad in the Netherlands as an art student. Later, studying the Impressionists deepened that fascination.

Though she works as an illustrator and landscape artist across many subjects, Katy continually returns to clouds. Painting them is her way of creating for the joy of it.

With over fifteen years of teaching experience as a college art professor, including leading curriculum development as a department head, Katy brings clarity, experience, and care to her lessons, demonstrations, and feedback.

She created Skybound because clouds invite us to look up, notice beauty again, and reconnect with a quiet sense of enchantment that daily life so easily erodes. Through painting clouds, she believes we can build real technical skill while becoming more present and fully alive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What skill level do I need to take this course?

Skybound is thoughtfully designed to welcome beginners while still inspiring more experienced artists. If you have some art background and are new to painting, you’ll be able to confidently follow each lesson and create beautiful skies along the way.

And if you’re an advanced artist, you can expand the projects by developing your own cloud compositions, experimenting with bold color palettes, and pushing each technique as far as you’d like.

What materials do I need?

You’ll need a basic set of artist's gouache paints (Holbein CMYK set recommended), a variety of synthetic hair paint brushes, watercolor paper, a palette, spray bottle, and paper towels.

Optional items like reference photos and templates are included in the course. A full supply list is provided in the first lesson.

Can I access the course on my tablet, phone and computer?

Yes! Skybound works seamlessly on desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile devices. You can stream lessons, download templates and handouts, and participate in the community from anywhere.

For an even smoother experience on your phone or tablet, you can add the course directly to your home screen using our mobile-friendly Progressive Web App (PWA). It opens just like an app — no App Store download required — so you can learn and paint wherever inspiration strikes.

How long does the course take to complete?

The instructional videos total 4+ hours, but completing the assignments and exercise will likely take longer. You will have lifetime access to the course and can go at your own pace.

Can I use this course as a foundation for other art style or mediums?

Yes! The principles of light, color, and composition you’ll learn can be applied to oils, acrylics, watercolor, or even digital painting.

Gouache is an incredibly versatile medium. It can be layered light-to-dark like watercolor or dark-to-light like oils and acrylics. In Skybound, we focus on a dark-to-light approach, which makes building luminous, dimensional clouds both approachable and rewarding.

Is there a community or support if I get stuck?

Yes! Included with the course is immediate access to The Skybound Loft, our private online community for anyone enrolled in the course. It's a place to connect with other cloud lovers, share your work, ask questions, and get feedback from other students.

What if I'm not satisfied with the course?

SKYBOUND comes with a 100% 14-day money-back guarantee. If the course isn’t right for you, simply request a refund within 14 days.
